April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball players to win medals at many Olympics. Kessy and Ross were strong on the international circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 together. This duo went on to win a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the group that could take home the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she retired. They went on to compete for the bronze medal in beach volleyball in the Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. Following high school, and for a few several years prior to hitting the sand as a pro Ross was a ball with the Trojans of USC as an collegiate. The time she spent at USC was impressive. As a freshmen in 2000 the Trojans' performance earned her the Pac-10 and NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. In 2000, her Trojans also reached the Final Four. During her sophomore year she was devastated by a personal setback, but she was able to be a second All-American. Through her two final years of participation in the Trojans team, she led the team to win a national championship every year. The achievements of each individual have established her as a volleyball legend. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross wasn't able to watch her daughter's rise to beach volleyball fame. Ross's mom died from cancer of the breast in 2001.
